Story Telling Sunday- THUD
THUD: 2 am-That sound can only mean one thing. The pacifier has fallen out of the babies mouth, and I have a short amount of time to put it back in before she starts wailing. It is pitch dark and I reach my hand into the bassinet to try and locate the pacifier. I can't seem to find it. I grab my phone and shine the light into the bassinet hoping it has dropped near her face or body...it is nowhere to be seen. Great, that means it has fallen on the floor....my seconds are ticking by before the siren goes off.
I scramble out of the sheets and descend to the bottom of the bed. Once my feet hit the ground I drop to my knees. An easy grab would be if it has fallen under the bassinet. A soft glow from my phone searches the trenches around the bassinet... the gem is nowhere to be found....20 seconds left...I look underneath the bed, a black abyss staring back at me. I shine my lantern into the dark depths and finally locate the treasure. I stretch with all my might to try and capture it. I am to large to fit anymore underneath the bassinet and my head will not go underneath the bed...10 seconds... I take my phone in one hand and throw it like a grapnel. It catches onto the treasure and I haul it towards me as quickly as possible....5 seconds...4 seconds...3 seconds...I scurry from underneath the bassinet and deposit the gem back into it's location. I sit catching my breath for a few seconds feeling victorious in my accomplishment. I rise back to my feet and climb back into bed. I find my pillow and drift off into a deep slumber. 4 am-THUD.
